Musicals Tonight 2008-2009 Season



Musicals Tonight 2008-09 season will present the following musicals, all to be performed at the McGinn Cazale Theatre.

  • Irma La Douce (1960). The show won six Tony Awards, including Best Actress.
    A Paris “poule” works to support her impoverished lover against his wishes. He poses as a rich elderly roué and becomes her exclusive client. The double life is too demanding so he “eliminates” the old gent and is arrested.
    Songs: Our Language of Love; There is Only One Paris for That; That’s a Crime.
    Dates: 14 - 26 Oct 2008


  • Tovarich (1963). The show won two Tony Awards, including Best Actress (Vivien Leigh).
    Former members of the late Tsar’s court work as servants to Americans in Paris in 1927 while avoiding the Communists sent to capture and return them to Moscow.
    Songs: Say You’ll Stay; Nitchevo; Wilkes-Barre, Pa; That Face; A Small Cartel; I Know the Feeling; Stuck with Each Other.
    Dates: 28 Oct - 9 Nov 2008


  • Cabaret Girl (1922). A Jerome Kern-PG Wodehouse hit from London making its New York debut!
    The producers of The All-Night Follies - Gravvins & Gripps act as cupids and try to bring together an ordinary working girl and her high-born “intended” against the wishes of her family - and succeed.
    Songs: You Want the Best Seats, We Have ‘Em; Whoop-De-Oodle-Do; Dear Old London; Shimmy with Me; London, Dear Old London; Dancing Time; Chopin Ad-Lib.
    Dates: 3 - 15 Mar 2009


  • Early To Bed (1943).
    This Fats Waller musical features an over-the-hill matador (El Magnifico) who falls in love with an old girl friend who now runs a brothel. Her current borders include an American track team who think they’re at a finishing school where the girls wear very little clothing.
    Songs: There’s a Man in My Life; Slightly Less than Wonderful; Ladies Who Sing with the Band; This is So Nice (It Must Be Illegal).
    Dates: 17 - 29 Mar 2009


  • You Never Know (1938). Cole Porter’s love affair with Paris continues with this delightful farce.
    Master and servant switch places and fall in love with mistress and maid, who have also switched places.
    Songs: I Am Gaston; By Candlelight; Alpha to Omega; At Long Last Love; What Is that Tune?; For No Rhyme or Reason; By Candlelight; Let’s Put It to Music.
    Dates: 14 - 26 Apr 2009
