Rob AshfordJohn Guare

A new production of Brigadoon will have its world premiere at the Colonial Theatre in Boston from 14 Oct - 9 Nov 2008, prior to opening on Broadway in Spring 2009 at a theatre to be announced.

The musical has a score by Frederick Loewe, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, and includes the songs “Almost Like Being In Love,” “Waiting for My Dearie,” “Come to Me, Bend to Me,” “There But For You Go I,” “I’ll Go Home With Bonnie Jean,” and “The Heather on the Hill”.

Brigadoon is the story of two disillusioned Americans on vacation in Scotland who wander into a village that comes alive every 100 years for only one day. The show features an original book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe.

The revival will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Rob Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie), and will feature a new book by Tony Award-winner John Guare (Six Degrees of Separation).

Rob Ashford's choreography can currently be seen on Broadway in the musicals' Cry-Baby and Curtains. He won the 2002 Tony Award for his choreography of 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (2002), and was nominated for tony Awards for his work on Curtains and the 'Wedding Singer' (2006). Ashford recently directed and choreographed the critically acclaimed production of 'Parade' at the Donmar Warehouse, receiving Olivier Award nominations for his direction and choreography. Brigadoon will be Ashford's Broadway directional Debut.

John Guare, who has written a revised book based on Lerner’s original, won a Tony Award for his book for the musical version of 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' (1971), and was Tony-nominated for his plays, 'The House of Blue Leaves' (1986), 'Six Degrees of Separation' (1990) and Four Baboons Adoring the Sun (1992), as well as the book for the musical 'Sweet Smell of Success' (2002).

The creative team features Christopher Oram (sets and costumes), Paule Constable (lighting) and Brian Ronan (sound).

Brigadoon will be produced by Ostar Productions and Liza Lerner.

This will be the fifth Broadway revival of Brigadoon, the musical had it's Broadway premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre where it ran from 13 Mar 1947 - 31 Jul 1948, that production was directed by Robert Lewis and choreographed by Agnes de Mille. It was last revived in 1980 at the Majestic Theatre, directed by Vivian Matalon and once again choreographed by Agnes De Mille.

Brigadoon was adapted into a popular 1954 MGM film starring Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse. The musical established Lerner & Loewe as one of Broadway’s great songwriting teams, with their later collaborations to include 'Paint Your Wagon,' 'My Fair Lady,' 'Gigi' and 'Camelot.'
