A Few Good Men: Broadway revival planned

Producer Davenport has confirmed on his blog that he plans a Broadway revival of Aaron Sorkin's 'A Few Good Men,' to be directed by David Esbjornson, expected to arrive during the 2010/11 season.

Sorkin's play tells the story of military lawyers at a court-martial who uncover a high-level conspiracy in the course of defending their clients, United States Marines accused of murder.

Davenport told the New York Times "A Few Good Men asks the difficult question of how far we're willing to let our military go to protect our freedom. That's never been more relevant than today, especially for a play that deals with Guantanamo Bay. Add to that the fact that Aaron is willing to roll up his sleeves, get his pen dirty and do a little re-writing, and you have the recipe for a thrilling revival."

The drama premiered on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre on 15 Nov 1998, directed by Don Scardino, and starred Tom Hulce as Navy lawyer, 'Lt. Daniel Kaffee' - for which he was nominated for a Tony. In the 1992 film adaptation, directed by Rob Reiner, Tom Cruise played the title role of 'Lt. Daniel Kaffee.' The movie was nominated for four Oscars.

The executives are looking for a 'big name' with lots of pulling power, but who would also be ideal for the role of 'Lt. Daniel Kaffee.' The New York Times was told "James Franco was the sort of actor who might be ideal in the role — or perhaps Justin Timberlake." Neither actor are assoiated with the revival - their names were mentioned as examples of the kind of star calibre needed for the production.

Sorkin told the New York Times "I’m particularly excited about the idea of being able to go back into rehearsal, do some rewriting and help make this the best production of the play that’s ever been seen.”
