The Broadway production of Irena's Vow, the new play by Dan Gordon, starring four-time Tony nominee, Tovah Feldshuh, plays its final performance on 28 Jun 2009. When the show closes it will have played 21 previews and 105 regular performances

Irena's Vow, directed by Michael Parva, opened at at the Walter Kerr Theatre on 29 Mar 2009, following previews from 10 Mar.

The production opened to mixed, but mostly poor reviews: "a perfectly boring play about a perfectly extraordinary woman." (newyorktheatreguide.com); "handled in such a banal, ham-fisted manner that it sometimes feels like bad fiction." (NY Times); "leeches out conflict and drama." (NY Post); "proceeds flatly on its formulaic way" (The Record).

However, some critcs spoke well of the production: "gripping and gets the tear ducts flooding" (NY Daily News); "it's a giant of a play featuring an equally giant star performance." (Back Stage).

Irena's Vow: During the Nazi occupation of Poland, Irena Gut Opdyke, a Polish Catholic, was forced to work as head housekeeper for a very prominent Nazi major. Over a two year period of service, Irena would risk her own life in order to save the lives of twelve Jewish refugees whom she secretly took under her care.

The complete cast also includes Sandi Carroll, Tracee Chimo, Steven Hauck, Scott Klavan, Peter Reznikoff, Thomas Ryan, Gene Silvers, John Stanisci and Maja Wampuszyc.

Irena's Vow began its life at New York’s Invictus Theatre Company, and recently ended a sold-out world-premiere engagement Off Broadway at the Baruch Performing Arts Center last year, produced by Power Productions / Stan Raiff in conjunction with The Directors Company and the Polish Cultural Institute.

The design team for Irena's Vow includes Kevin Judge (Scenic Design), David Castaneda (Lighting Design), Astrid Brucker (Costume Design) and Quentin Chiappetta (Sound Design/Composer.)

Irena's Vow is produced on Broadway by Stan Raiff, Daryl Roth, Debra Black, James L. Nederlander and Terry Allan Kramer.
