Broadway premiere of Extremities may star Katie Holmes

The New York Times reports that Katie Holmes may be returning to Broadway starring as 'Marjorie' in the Broadway premiere of William Mastrosimone’s Extremities, to be directed by Tony nominee Kenny Leon (Fences).

TV and film actress Katie Holme, wife of Tom Cruise, has been approached to star in the role, but it is not known if she has accepted the offer, whose TV and film credits include "Joey Potter in "Dawson's Creek" and "Batman Begins," made her Broadway debut as 'Ann Deever' in the 2008 revival of Arthur Miller's 'All My Sons.'

Extremities: Marjorie fights of a rapist, but in her escape drops her purse. The rapist now has her address and Marjorie has reasons to believe atytempt to rape her in her home. When she informs the police they ask for proof of the attack and are dismissive of her fears. The rapist does attack again, but Marjorie turns the tables on him and managers to trap him. But now she faces a new dilemma - What to do with thw rapist?

According to the report in the New York Times, Debbie Bisno and Ray Gaspard will be the productions lead producers. Bisno confirmed the show would arrive on Broadway either this season, or during the 2011 - 12 season. However, Bisno would not comment on possible casting.

It is also believed that Academy nominated actress Chloe Sevigny (Boys Don't Cry ) is also being considered for the part. If cast, this would be Sevigny's Broadway debut.

Matt Dillon was approached to play the role of 'Joe' the would be rapist, but he turned down the offer due to other commitments.

William Mastrosimone’s Extremities played Off-Broadway in 1982 with Susan Sarandon in the lead role. That production, directed by Robert Allan Ackerman, ran from 22 Dec 1982 - 2 Oct 1083 at Westside Theatre (Upstairs). During its run, 'Marjorie' was alsi played by 'Karen Allen' and 'Farrah Fawcett.' Fawcett went on to play the role in the 1986 movie version.
