''Tis Pity She's A Whore' at the Storm Theatre

Friendly Fire in association with Storm Theatre present 'Tis Pity She's A Whore, by John Ford, at the Storm Theatre from the 29 Sep - 21 Oct 2005

Set in Parma, Italy, 'Tis Pity She's A Whore tells the tale of an incestuous love between Giovanni and his sister Annabella that ends in spectacular violence. Written in 1630, this controversial story of lust, jealousy and betrayal is shockingly modern. Playwright John Ford wrestles with those enduring forces of evil which plague us today: driving teens to slaughter jeering classmates, prompting clergy to cover up scandals, and deluding politicians who justify hypocrisy as righteousness.

John Ford (1586-1640) wrote during the reign of King Charles I and is considered by many scholars to be the last major dramatist of the English renaissance. His work twists the Jacobean revenge form to plumb the depths of life, death, morality and faith.

'Tis Pity She's A Whore's cast, directed by Alex Lippard, features: Helmar Augustus Cooper, Catherine Curtin, John Douglas Thompson, Jan Leslie Harding, Craig Braun and Mel Cobb.

The production has set design by Michael V. Moore, costume design by Martin Lopez, lighting design by Scott Bolman, with sound and original music by Allison Leyton-Brown.
