'A Spalding Gray Matter' at the Flamboyan Theatre

Breedingground Productions presents A Spalding Gray Matter, written & performed by Michael Brandt and directed by Ian Morgan, at the Flamboyan Theatre from the 27 May - 11 Jun 2005.

A Spalding Gray Matter explores the curious story of Spalding Gray’s illness, disappearance, and assumed suicide through the eerily parallel events of the author’s own experience. Using the theatrical structure of Gray’s 'Swimming to Cambodia', Michael seeks to understand what happened to Spalding Gray as a way of understanding what is happening to himself, and vice versa. The result is an intimate, confessional environment for a gripping story about the consequences of illness on the human psyche.

Michael Brandt regional credits include 'Henry IV' with John Goodman and 'Mr. Roberts' with Robert Hays. Michael is the author of the stage plays 'Footprints In The Snow', 'Survival Waltz', and 'Merely Players'. He was most recently seen on stage in Spring Theatreworks’ production of 'Eagle Hills, Eagle Ridge, Eagle Landing' by Brett Neveu at Altered Stages, directed by Ian Morgan.

Ian Morgan is Associate Artistic Director of The New Group, and runs its New Group Naked series and play development programs. He has directed other new work at the Atlantic, HERE, Center Stage, New Dramatists, and the O'Neill, and workshopped new plays at New York Theater Workshop, Rattlestick, EST, and the Public. He recently directed 'Critical Darling' by Barry Levey at The New Group.
