Baz Bamigboye reports that the London production of Terence Rattigan's 'Flare Path,' directed by Trevor Nunn, is exploring the possibility of playing on Broadway in late 2011, or early 2012.
The production stars Sienna Miller (Patricia), James Purefoy (Peter), Sheridan Smith (Doris) , Joe Armstrong (Dusty), Sarah Crowden (Mrs.Oakes), Clive Woods (Swanson). It is not known if the possible Broadway production will star any of the London cast.
Flare Path, playing at London's Haymarket Theatre, opened on 10 Mar 2011 to mostly excellent reviews: Highly moving (Londontheatre.co.uk); Magnificent revival (Guardian); Superb production (Telegraph); Richly entertaining and beautifully judged revival (Independent); Sir Trevor's direction is lucid and scrupulously precise...polished and potent (Evening Standard).
Flare Path: It is 1942. At the Falcon Hotel, on the edge of an airfield in Lincolnshire, Teddy, a young bomber pilot is celebrating a reunion with his actress wife Patricia. Events take an unexpected turn, when Peter a famous heartthrob film star arrives, and an urgent bombing mission over Germany is ordered. As the night gives way to dawn, Patricia finds herself at the centre of a passionate conflict of love and loyalty as unpredictable as the war in the skies.
Flare Path premiered on Broadway in 1942, directed by Margaret Webster, and starring Reynolds Denniston, Alec Guinness, Jackie Kelk, Nancy Kelly, Cynthia Latham, Arthur Margetson, Dorothy Patten, Helena Pickard and Gerald Savory.
If Trvour Nunn's production of Flare Path arrives on the Great White Way it will be the first time the show has been revived on Broadway.
