Glee looks set for Broadway

Ryan Murphy, one of the creators of Glee, the hit musical comedy-drama television series that airs on Fox, told the New York Daily News that a stage adaptation of the TV show is to premiere on Broadway.

In New York for the opening of his film 'Eat Pray Love,' Murphy told the paper that a Broadway show based on the TV series was "definitely" happening, and that he is now auditioning for the show. When asked who he would like to see star in the show, he declined to name names, merely telling the paper "You'll see."

There has been no official announcement.

Glee is about a high-school Spanish teacher who becomes the director of the school's Glee club, hoping to restore it to its former glory. The show, which is still in its first series, has been nominated for 19 Emmy Awards. The second series airs on Fox beginning 21 Sep 2010.

In the first series high-school Spanish teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) takes over a high school show choir, also known as a glee club, in the fictional William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio.

Will takes over the glee club after its former director (Stephen Tobolowsky) was fired for inappropriate contact with a male student. With a rag-tag group of misfit teenagers, Will attempts to restore the glee club to its former glory, while tending to his wife Terri (Jessalyn Gilsig), his developing feelings for his co-worker Emma (Jayma Mays), and defending the glee club's existence from the conniving cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch).
