Designed by Herbert J. Krapp, the Imperial Theatre was built for the Shuberts and officially opned on 25th December 1923 with the musical "Mary Jane McKane." It was the Shuberts' fiftieth New York venue and was constructed as a replacement for their 20 year old (and out-of-date) Lyric Theatre. Interestingly, the venue also held the first-ever "Ms. Globe Pageant" in 1951.
